Admit it- aren't we all just jealous that he's got a successful scam and we don't? Who wouldn't love to get into 500 shows a year for free.

And he's not an asshole. Anybody that takes the time to talk to him would know that. Although- I admit- half the time I would see him he wouldn't remember that he's met me and the other half he would act like we were best friends. The worst one was when I saw him 2 nights in a row- the first night he politely said hi, the 2nd night he gave me a hug and said "Hey- I haven't seen you in ages". In his defense though- I probably hadn't been at the 5 other shows he had been at between those 2 nights.

Anyway, he's the subject of GBV's My Kind Of Soldier video.

His antics aren't that bad, but the him being an asshole part is pretty lame. There was an article in the Post about a year ago about the scams he pulls. And the Wakarusa message board, leading up to the shows, was pretty much disgusted with him. I think he's harmless enough, but certainly not deserving of all the hype he gets.

I completely agree with Mark Spencer on this one. While Beetle may have some idiosyncracies..I give the guy some major props..more people should get off their asses and dance to the music.....

He is a scenester and reminds of a missing era of colorful characters from the Beat Generation through the 60's.....

My Best Friend who is converting a Church on the Corner of Allen and Gravois in Soulard to a Muscial Venue is creating a Beetle Bob Zone in honor of Beetle...I was on the floor laughing about this but he is totally serious....

"Beatle do not step out of the Box" hee...hee..hee...

he is always at ACL Fest, at first funny and cool to watch, but later really got in the way of the shows. I could never figure out if he was mentally impaired or whacked out on goof balls or what, but standing in line behind him at La Zona Rosa waiting to see Gomez, I found out he talks and acts just like a normal every day guy....until the music starts, then he goes nuts.

I don't know where he gets his energy.

There's nothing wrong with Beatle Bob, he's just a regular freak in a world of boring and or evil freaks, people just get sick of him because he interrupts the furrowed continuity of their heartfelt rock needs. I find all the complaints about him as annoying/fascinating as he himself. Those who bellyache about him only increase his renown!!! I think the main reason people who don't like him have to denigrate him is that he is really fucking industrious in his super-fan-dom, and appears to have BOUNDLESS energy....the exercise he gets doing his dancing at all those shows puts him in a far better exercise bracket than the majority of rock fans, me included. I guess it could also be a drag when you have to see a crazy fan dancer dude like him all the time and he is more interesting than a lot of the bands he's boogying to!
Great post!! LMAO :D :D I think I may make Bob my new superhero. Whats a KLEPPER? Bob's dancing doesn't bother me. I've been told I dance like a refrigerator with arms so anybody's an improvement over me!

He is as annoying to some fans, just as some fans are annoying to artists, especially those that talk loudly on their cellular phones or drunkenly scream vulgarities or song requests at the stage. I don't think anybody is all that angry at the guy (here or anywhere for that matter), its just annoying sometimes that people like him, the screamers, or the c-phone nuts can be exceedingly inconsiderate or rude by attracting so much attention to themselves.

No amount of complaining (however mild) can attract any more attention to this guy than he does for himself already. I just can't figure out how this guy gets so much access to shows and stuff

Mark, if he doesn't get into your shows free, he doesn't go.

At the tables on the keyobard side of the stage with a white baseball hat on backwards? I was behind him. I give his air drumming a B-. He was really getting into it, though.

He shows up all over the place...i've seen him in Austin several times, and he does become a bit of a distraction, to say the least. In small doses, he is harmless. However, when you see him dancing about at every stage at a festival AND when you consider he somehow gets to sit ON stage and does his dancing bit in full view of an audience, he becomes tiresome.

Is there really a Beetle Bob documentary in the works?

It's more than that. He's a con. He scams his way into shows, scams free CDs by telling bands he'll play them on his radio show, etc. He doesn't have a radio show. He was at the Pageant at 3:30 trying to get in free during load-in. He's suddenly became a best buddie when he found out the director of his documentary wanted to interview me (I've been around almost as long as him). Much more, but I have to get back to work.
