Some more Neal Cotts info to supplement Mr. Sticky's insights offered earlier:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-cotts20.html
Sounds like NC was a high school hero.
On another interesting note, during an interview on Chicago sports radio last night, the interviewer told Cotts that the Sox strength and conditioning coach claimed Cotts was the biggest badass on the team in terms of strength, conditioning, 'tude, etc. Ever the humble southern Illinoisan, Cotts asked "Have you seen that 6'5" Cuban guy? He'd whip my ass with one hand behind his back." Reference was to Jose Contreras.
So that's at least two badasses from the Belleville area.
This suggest that the ChiSox may have some small amount of RUP on their side.

EDIT* spelling error
in a single parent household (deadbeat spermdoner)
and a kid who spent
his 1st 11 years in a
town that was 80+% Black (Afro_American to the PC's)
East Palo Alto, CA
i find these stats useless
it doesnt matter how or where you grow up
its your heart that leads you
to the right or wrong path
by the way
i do have some unkind thoughts

Like I said:
"Well it would be safe to assume since "among long-term prison inmates, 70 percent grew up without fathers, as did 60 percent of rapists and 75 percent of adolescents charged with murder. - National Center for Policy Analysis, 1997. Doubt very seriously that a statistic such as this has incured a marginal change within the past 7 years. "

Well here's one viewable source for that first stat:peainthepod wrote: ....64% of all the worlds statistics are made up right there on the spot

whoa here's another with the exact stat, almost verbatim:
http://patriot.net/~crouch/adr/kids.html
There are two sources. I guess I could find more but it doesn't matter how many I find - does it? You can always just dismiss and deny it to be true and make a fool of yourself to more intelligent people who use logic to come to conclusions.

Here's another stat from years back. You can split hairs and play the dated facts card if you like, this is a stat representing teen deviants so we can guess how they grew up.
Works Cited:In a new study of 72 adolescent murders and 35 adolescent thieves, researches for Michigan State University demonstrated that the overwhelming majority of t teenage criminals live with only one parent. Fully 75 percent of those charged with homicide had parents who were either divorced or had never been married at all; that number rises to 82 percent of those charged with nonviolent larceny offenses.
Dewey G. Cornell, et al., "Characteristics of Adolescents Charged With Homicide: Review of 72 Cases," Behavioral Sciences and the Law, 5, No. 1 [1987], 11-23; epitomized in The Family in America: New Research, March, 1988. Cited in Amneus, The Garbage Generation, page 216
as the great Todd Snider sez
they say 3%of the people use 5 to 6% of their brain
97% use 3% & the rest goes down the drain
99% think with with 3% 100% of the time.....

My buddy met Tom & Bob Stinson's mom in Minniapolis years back and she was very happy that people from outta town had heard of her boys band.Hoops wrote:I was at a party in south St. Louis last year and was talking to some girl from Belleville. I guess he is some big musician. I've never heard any of it. In fact you are the only person I have met who knows his music."
strange.
That strikes me as stange also. Sad too. But not being from Belleville I can't really say. Students that are really into music-real music-usually are familiar with Wilco. Son Volt /Tupelo on occasion. I guess that's the tragedy of being well-crafted music. So many folks miss out on music that may really move them if they had the opportunity.Oh well, nothing worth while is ever easy they say...

He went to Lebanon HS, just outside of Belleville. Jay grew up in Milstadt, but went to B'ville West (as all Milstadt does). I doubt he has any idea who Jay, Son Volt or Uncle Tupelo are. Not many people there do, really.hollywood44 wrote:So...is the consensus that Neal Cotts did NOT grow up in Belleville? According to whitesox.com he was BORN there and attended Illinois State. Thought it may be an interesting "6 degrees" -ish connection.

People die and are killed each day for various reasons. People get killed in rich neighborhoods, poor neighborhoods, etc. We had that big shot dentist who ran over her doctor husband here for cheating...their house is bigger than my entire yard...shit happens.
Through it all, be happy none of us are psycho killers.
I know a guy from Belleville, Doug Adams...he's about Sticky's age I'd guess, he used to be in Jeff's class. He has an annual with Jeff and Jay in it. Doug is a cool guy...
