Give me a fucking break.
Disaster = reaction.
If your ass is on fire, should you try to put it out, or wait 'til you're sure that the responsible party is taking that action. Maybe you ass wouldn't have caught on fire, if the Bic lighter company would've warned you about lighting farts...
Stunned again.

Mr. President, what are you doing to improve Costa Mesa? Damnit, I want answers now!!
Perhaps if the mayor of New Orleans and the Gov of Louisiana had something resembling an evacuation plan in place, the scope of this disaster could have been minimized.

I, as a rule, am not a very political-minded person, but, I do like to think I have common sense, and the ability to call bullshit when I see it.
The Bush administration handled the hurricane disaster in a RIDICULOUS fashion.
I really didn't think he could be THAT lame.
Even if he had no abilty to see the potential to save lives as a positive thing, he didn't even have the ability to see it as an opportunity to go down in history as a hero, even if it was for egotistical reasons.
An egotistical leader, savin' lives for his own gain, beats one who lets something as GIGANTIC as this "get in line" with all the other crises in the world, while the citizens he is supposed to be taking care of die, in numbers FAR greater than the 9-11 attack.
He stuns me daily.

Anyone see Shepard Smith from FOXNews on Letterman last night? For some reason I really like that guy. I watched some of his reporting from NOLA and the guy is really good at what he does.
One interesting thing he mentioned is that the Federal Govt has a list of scenarios that are the worst that could possibly hit the US. NOLA being destroyed by a hurricane/flood was 3rd, first, and one that is still really scary to think about is San Francisco being levelled by "The Big One".

I respect your opinion, Shuck, but it just seems to me that in this case hindsight shouldn't have been needed to know that the best move would have been to do everything in the government's power to help people in a desperate life and death situation. Admittedly, I don't know all the beaurocratic hurdles of "standard procedure," but if there was ever a time to bypass them this was it. It is hard for me to believe that the President's hands are tied to the point of being completely powerless to help people in a time of crisis like this. And I don't think anyone would have complained if someone didn't file all the necessary paperwork to save lives. If Bush had done the right thing and someone questioned his power to do so, I can assure you I would find myself in the unlikely position of actually defending the President...I'm not looking at this from an ideological perspective.

I can't help but think of Bush's expression from Fahrenheit 9/11 in the classroom after hearing about the terrorist attacks. (For the record I think that movie is a manipulative piece of propaganda.) I wonder if he had that same look on his face for the 24 hours he spent on his ranch after learning about the hurricane. It is incomprehensible to me why any politician wouldn't jump on such an opportunity to do what is the right thing by everyone's standards...I mean how often is it that everyone agrees on what is the right thing? It's a no-lose decision to immediately send in all the help available to save lives. I'm not letting any of the local politicians off the hook, but this should have been an easy one for Bush. All he had to do was give the word, and then he comes off looking like Guiliani after 9/11. As heartless as it sounds, a tragedy like this provides a perfect political opportunity to gain points simply by making the obvious move and helping people. This is further proof of the incompetency of the Bush administration in my opinion...to even be incapable of doing the right thing when it is clearly in their best interests to do so.
By the way, did anyone see Jeb Bush's interview during the Florida St. - Miami game tonight? The announcers asked him about the hurricane and he said something like: "This is payback time. We got hit by four last year."
...I have nothing more to say...
