Wilco didn't really start to cook until 1996.

"Harp" mag article on Jay a few months back , he stated that " Son Volt is something he would definitely like to pick back up later" or something to that nature , so the break up is not official , as far as Jay is concerned, I believe it was the August issue .

jay has always followed his own path and i love sebastopol and terrior blues. i think what he's doing is way more interesting than listening to the same wilco setlist 5 times per year.

article

I haven't ever bookmarked any articles. All I know is I've read discussion boards and articles where Mike Heidorn has said he basically never heard anything from Jay. Jay said he was working on some stuff of his own but never said that Mike wasn't involved or not going to be part of the next album.

Which band are you talking about? Jay gave Uncle Tupelo ample warning that he was leaving the band. He agreed to finish out the remaining tour dates before he left. As far as Son Volt goes I haven't heard anything about that split/hiatus. Can you direct me to an article or anything concerning this?

Greatness

Post by scalzunfield »

I personally think it's great that Jeff has moved away from the "twang" while little ol' Jay here continues to come up with less interesting stuff every time. As for Jeff being pretentious, I find it hysterical Haggis. Is it not your precious little Jay Farrar who doesn't even have the nerve to tell his fellow bandmates when a hiatus is upon them? I love pretentious bastards like that--like being fired from your job, but not being told there will be no paycheck in two weeks.

As far as I'm concerned, Jay Farrar's next album will be more uninteresting Space Junk shit. Even if Jeff's next one sucks, it'll be more of a step in the right direction.

Trace remains one of my five fav albums, but Jay has continually gone down a path of art shit (kind of like David Byrne after Little Creatures). Maybe it's just me that senses this. Or maybe the only one with enough guts to say it...

Forget it. Any sense of fun, bad-assedness or 'twang' that Wilco had disappeared up Jeff Tweedy's pretentious butt many moons ago. I fear there is no way out of there.

Have been listening to some live shows, mainly Mississippi Nights 04/29/95, and boy were the guys badass back then. YHF is unreal but I hope they twang a little on the next one. However I have some stuff recorded after YHF and have seen them live twice this year and the new stuff seems to be heading in a garage\noise\punk direction. Kickin Television is very Iggyish.
