Good call on Gary Allan. He is one of the few modern country acts I enjoy although his last single Hangover was god awful.

If memory serves, Son Volt did open for the steaming pile of dog doo and arrogance that is John Mellencamp, on his "Rural Electrification" tour.

I know in my heart of hearts Jay should be a big star (whether he cares to or not). It just seems like more people need to hear him. Maybe SV should take an opening slot for somebody good who happens to have a big audience. Hell, I got to Jay via REM with Wilco (who I's never heard) opening (the usual Wilco-UT-SV route).

Damn... in regards to the original post: Haven't talked to Brad about playing with Keith very much, just a few emails. He's really digging playing for big crowds. Disparaging him for taking a better job is the height of hypocrisy.

Even for that *rash* you picked up in Florida one time?

No ... that was from an unclean t-shirt.

Leper colonies do t-shirt lines now?
Only at Phish (and Def Leppard) shows.
Only in America could Def Leppard sell so many shitty albums.

Sorry Brian, but you're wrong. It's not on country radio anymore, but it still exists. Redd Volkaert and Dale Watson still play every week at the Continental Club. Some fine country music is played on the street corners here every night. They aren't trying to be retro, they're just playing tunes and telling stories. You can still two step at the Broken Spoke any night of the week. You just have to look harder nowadays.

saw dac app. 4 years ago at the iron horse saloon, a biker bar in ormand beach, fl. he definitely has always marched to his own drumbeat(see the doc, heartworn highways). he's a cross between a carnie, movie extra for helter skelter, and the cowardly lion from a peyote induced wizard of oz. i still think 'the ride' is one of the greatest odes to hank.

Damn you Garth Brooks. ----( Although I admit that I loved "Ropin the Wind" back in 91)

Saw that David Allen Cole is playing in Atl... if that aint country i'll kiss your ass. But he is one spooky looking cat now-a-days --- completely freakin spooky.
