this nightfall has made up my mind
no more dead tides and red tides
will wash over in this dream

the first thing to do is talk about it. then you try in some way to make a change in your life to make a difference. one thing you should never do is not talk about it.

Wherever there's oil pipes and tankers, there will be spillage. We're the driving force behind this stuff. Accidents happen, but it's our fault and responsibility.

The cost of modern living is high indeed. Maybe this oil was intended to make your next computer? Your next Tupperwarethingie? Your next toothbrush? Your next Coke bottle? Your next piece of clothing? Your next scuba diving goggles and swim feet intended to spot fish on your next Caribbean vacation? Your next guitar, amp, and mic?

We can be sad, but moral questions should be ignored and put aside as long we're all willing to live with this.

i had about 10 chefs call me yesterday asking how this would effect availability/price/etc of seafood from the gulf and had to tell them i really didn't know yet but to expect prices to go up. this is a very fucked up situation indeed.

Well said, all.

But what of the notion that as drivers of automobiles we are all culpable - proximate causes, if you will - of this mess?

Don't know what to say. I can't believe the wildlands of my youth are headed for decay. Katrina on ACID.

I worry about the nesting birds. They won't leave their nests despite the oil. They don't know what to do but protect their babies. Every, all of it will be bathed in oil. Fishing off the shore of Grande Isle is a favorite memory of mine. No longer for the rest of my lifetime.

The oil gets to Florida on Monday. I could fire off a good bit, but I'm just sad knowing how much wildlife is sucking oil and trying to preen feathers. Not to mention my amphibians. Yeah, possessive. I love amphibians. And fish, birds, black bears, whatnot. GD OIL

Pony

PS: OH YEAH, THIS ALL HAPPENED ON EARTH DAY, 4/20. Sacrilege.

saddened, sickened and disheartened by what is happening in the gulf of mexico. the environmental, ecological and economic impact is quite sobering to contemplate. one commentator has indicated it will make the exxon valdez incident pale in comparison. while purchasing my weekend vino i inquired of the young man bagging my purchases what his thoughts were. his response: we are messing up this planet but there is nothing i can do about it. my quarter of a century in florida has resulted in an unfathomable appreciation for nature, the tranquility of the everglades, the soothing rhythm of the ocean waves kissing the sand and the life giving estuaries. these are the sights and sounds that corral my cynicism and agosticism of society.

is it true we are careening out of control towards the inevitable?

behaves like gasoline
all this 21st century blood
in this round we're in
it's hard to imagine
deliver us from now
