ACD is better album in my opinion. I too think Sultana is good tune. It is masterful period folk piece. I think overall Jay is doing his best work ever, on both albums. There are not any songs of his I have heard that I dislike. They are only degrees of excellence and he continues to become a better writer. I think the live OFM stuff is unreal and he and Ben really are outstanding (of course with Mark). It is like a bonus. Zenith? Probably not yet, which is good for us.

I like it as well but still find it to be an occasional skipper, thus my reference to "weak" when compared to One Fast Move in order to cast my vote for the poll.Badjayhawk wrote:I actually kind of find myself liking "Sultana," if for no other reason than it's a class folk song about a significant tragedy few even know about today (including me---had to look it up). Points for being raised near big muddy, Jay.

After a week of listening to One Fast Move, twice through once on a nice long motorcycle trip through the great plains, I've come to regard it as astoundingly good. Songs I first thought were--filler isn't the right word--but that I tossed off, now fit into the narrative (which, frankly, comes across far more coherently than Kerouac's novel).
This is going down as one of my favorite releases of the year easily.
Oddly, and completely off topic, I happened upon my vinyl copy of Husker Du's cover of "Eight Miles High," released on an EP between Zen Arcade and New Day Rising. I got goosebumps hearing Bob Mould's screaming vocals. Look it up if you've never heard it. For some strange reason, it reminded me that really great music does stand the test of time. I have absolutely no doubt One Fast Move will sound just as amazing in twenty years.

Re: One Fast Move Or I'm Gone.
your over the top obsession with vinyl is incredibly boring! you care more about the sound of the freakin vinyl than the actual content of the art. i.e. "top notch vinyl release this one is, one fast move gets my vote in the poll."Monkeygunner wrote:The sound quality of One Fast Move is astounding!
A Pallis recording (think the new Wilco re-issues fron NONESUCH) this disk is 180 gram vinyl bliss. Kolderie did a masterful job engineering this disc and Greg Calbi mastered this one perfectly (not falling victim to the loudness wars - leaving the dynamics intact at all volume levels). The backgrounds are black and dead silent in the quiet moments!! This is how it's done.... (I hope Jay uses Paul & Greg on the next SV album).
The packaging is beautiful (although gatefold would have been better) with a nice insert and lovely "old timey" woodcut cover. The DVD & 7" is a welcome and nice added bonus.
The music is gorgeously inviting.

i suggest you take a few more listens to a.c.d. (if you own it).
