Kerouac was more about jazz and rhythmic takes on things. This seems unfitting for his words. I'm not really digging on it.

P.S. - I'm not "off" I just stated it seemed lame to me that someone who read the book solely for the project is doing the project. It's fact that I feel this way.

Ban as in ban from the site? That is crazy talk. It's still ok to have a different opinion here. I happen to like the album, but different strokes for different folks still applies.

Nah, I'm just a snob when it comes to Kerouac stuff, I guess. This isn't what *I* envisioned when I thought about music to accompany the work. I'm happy so many people enjoy it, it's just not fulfilling to me.

I would have liked to have seen a jazzier, more rhythmic take on the songs. I think Jay could pull it off, just felt like he doesn't want to leave the comfort zone lately...now if the Guthrie album sounds like Son Volt like this does, I'll be REALLY disappointed in Jay. I figure you should be more experimental and go where the work takes you, not where you can take the work. You know?

I still love Jay with all of my body (including my pee pee).

I’ve been listening to this on NPR site (thanks for the tip) for every second I’ve been online since Tuesday. Kerouac’s words, Jay’s voice, Gibbard’s voice, it doesn’t matter - the arrangement drips of Jay Farrar and has pulled me back in from where I’ve wandered since Canyon backed him. For some reason “Final Horrors” IS the voice with which Jay speaks to me best. And though Gibbard-sung, “Willamine” and “Void” appeal blackly sweet to my oh-so dirty twin baboon souls.

Ben Gibbard's vocals remind me of John Stiratt's (wilco bass player) vocal delivery.

And if you haven't listening to John's band The Autumn Defense I suggest you go now and listen.

I just got done listening to the album and I'm blown away. The flow of the whole album goes down easy and the lyrics of coarse a deep and inspiring. I'm gonna have to pay close note to the lyrics in my future album spins because there is just so much goin on.

I think you should probably listen to it before you say it seems lame.

Best song on the record, in my opinion, is "All in One." Gibbard's on lead for this one. Farrar's songs are also phenomenal, it's just that "All in One" has grabbed me in the early going.

I say we celebrate each new Farrar vocal, lyric and music like we would celebrate each new Monet or Keroauc book or whatever artist in his time.

Some we like more than others, and time passing may change our opinions, but one day it'll all be over.

I initially put up the link and haven't even listened yet because I got a talkin' to for streaming music last week. I haven't been able to listen at home either due to night job and busy on non-night work days. Alanis, can you hear me calling?

I agree that it's brilliant. I just bought tickets for the NYC show, which I initially wasn't going to attend. As someone Jay's age (42) and immersed in a rather dark period in my life (divorce) the book (which I initially read in my 20's) and the soundtrack really hit home. I haven't read Kerouac in awhile, but took a deep dive in my 20's. Desolation Angels is one of my all-time favorite works.

I commend Jay and Ben for taking on this project...it's fucking brilliant. Have not watched the DVD yet, but am looking forward to it.

This time of year "Autumn across America" is a perfect backdrop for this music. I agree with a former post that a re-immersion in Kerouac for awhile is a very good thing.

Been listening for three days, and I think it's brilliant.

Pass the kool-aid.
