Ya ever think that maybe he was just really fucked up and it was all he could do to just stand there and extend a hand?

Just a thought...

why bother shaking Jay's hand? i would give him a big hug and tell him thanks for the music that makes my day go by a little smoother!

i know several have stated this thread is worn out however i wish to address texas tom and his disappointment. the fish hand is funny and all however we miss a significant point. point points out a legitimate concern and that being jay makes a living from his hands and the last thing he wishes is a well whisher with the appropriate motive being somewhat too gungho in the moment. and, as others have insinuated, shaking hands is, if we were to be candid, an outdated method of acknowleding each other. how about a simple nod of the head, a slight bow, or evern the faintest of smiles as a ritual to state 'i see you, i hear you, i know you are present'.

all of the above is superfluous when considering there has been at least one artice published where jay's spouse has explained just how shy and reserved the man is. think about it, if he is this way around the person he is most comfortable with on this planet, why on earth wouldn't he be tenfold the same around strangers after a show.

i can understand the desire to connnect with an artist that you admire. i mean, we are all music hounds, but step back and reassess. we all have our comfort zones with strangers, some much more than others. i am sure that jay, given his natural predisposition and secondly his stature at a venue post concert, must be somewhat wary of those who choose to approach him, more times than not in an intoxicated state, and wax eloquent about his muse, his lyric phrasings, his influences, etc., etc.

The quality of this thread may be debatable but that it produced this witty gem from Texas Tom is not:
"You get "fished" by the Farrar then tell me its stupid bud"
as the butt of that verbal jab, yes, I will concede that was funny.

Just wanted to let this out. Oprah said it would help.

I won't be so self-important as to refer back to my own post earlier in this thread, but I imagine it's as simple as someone being tired at the end of a long day's work and wanting to just wind down ASAP. At the end of a long day I can't wait to get out of my office. Not that I don't like the people I work with, but when I'm spent I'm spent.

These guys do a grueling road schedule. Watch the tour calender. A LOT of ground covered in a brief amount of time. They're probably exhausted as shit on the reguler.

And the knowledge that anything you do or say is going to be examined with a fine-toothed comb by e-fanboys probably doesn't make them want to hobknob that much either.

Dude has the hand strength to kill a small village. Between playing guitar, flipping off audience members, "relieving the pressure" on the road and being generally awesome with his hands, dude can't squeeze the hands of mere mortals. If he did, their hands would look like Barf's foot after it met with a Yogurt statue. True story...

I agree with Larry, both Carter and Fen are organs.

I agree with Doug. For example, TS&L has a soft handshake because he lives by playing his organ.
