Through three feet of snow... (both ways)

These guys just played a couple chords and melted the snow and leveled the land.

Mound City? We're in the flatlands now.

cheers

Ok ... go ahead ... roll your eyes

I asked my Father about his Son Volt ...

... he said they had to carry their gear on their backs ...

... and walk uphill (both ways) to their gigs.

P.S.

He said they rocked nonetheless!

"Yes, the stage was shaking."
"But it may have been Jay doing some kind of tribal war stomp."
"But maybe it was just Rock and Roll."

i'm just guessing here, but perhaps Starr Jones was in town for aerobics classes.

maybe not

Good point homegrown. It's not really fair or necessary to compare, especially based on one live performance. I will say this: Son Volt is still a rock band.

I feel like this is a difficult issue to comment on. To say that one is better than the other is not fair in my opinion. I LOVED the orignal lineup. I saw them 20 times approximately. I was floored to hear they were getting back together, and it was absolutely the best news EVER. Then I found out it wasn't the orignal lineup afterall. I was extremely disappointed when I found out it wasn't gonna happen. After reading various articles about the "reasons" for the new SV, I was more accepting of the new lineup. I didn't know what to expect at the MCMF in St. Louis, but was very happy with the sounds that I heard. From song 1, I knew that it was a good thing, which shouldn't take away at all from what SV was years ago. It's two separate but similar sounds, and yet both are wonderful.

The entire building was shaking. I'm not sure how hard that is to do at Miss. Nights, but the stage was actually bouncing. One of the other bad reviews said Brad was over the top and tried to do too much, this one says he was weak (paraphrasing). Eyes (or ears) of the beholder, I guess. It's all kind of a moot point. Brad heads off to Tift Merritt and a new guy comes in for the European tour. It's hard to say about the harmonies, but from what I heard (IMO), Andrew has a better voice. He's also a grittier, more accomplished bass player, who's played a lot more than Jim in the last five years.

I missed Anders, but everyone I talked to said he was much better with a band.

cheers

I'm with you Lawrence Fan. This version of Son Volt rocked. I thought Brad Rice really tore it up and I was impressed with Duplantis' bass playing and harmonies. My ears may still be ringing from the show. I was more psyched about the new Son Volt lineup after leaving the show than I was before.

The main complaint was of the new guitarist because he doesn't really rip it or play anything noteworthy or memorable and that the Bosquit(sp) brothers are sorely missed because of many things, including weak harmony and substantial bass playing...
In a nutshell .. this version of Son Volt doens't peal back your ears with guitars, volume and belting harmonies like the previous one did.
Of course, it was one man's opinion and not mine..
I wonder if others felt the same ...
The same guy said Anders was pretty damn awesome and loved hearing him with a full-on band
I got the exact opposite reaction. This version of SV rocked out, much more so than the SV with the Boquists, and Brad Rice was definitely ripping.

Of course, this was just MY impression and my $0.02.

Hopefully you know I was kidding about the shirt, making fun of another post.

Joey Cape is rather attractive for a man of his stature.
