DBT - A Blessing And A Curse

I must say after 5 consecutive listens it still hasn't grabbed me like Dirty South did.

Space City , Little Bonnie , World Of Hurt and Aftermath USA stand out but the rest kind of passed me by. I was left feeling a little let down and somewhat nonplussed about the whole thing. Which totally pissed me off because I had been almost drooling in expectation of this album.

How is everyone getting a listen to this record ???

I mean, it's not like I'm NOT going to buy it or see DBT three times during their tour (fingers crossed).

C'mon BB, my tag line's a Patterson lyric.
Maybe they want to give fans their money's worth with real long records. Maybe they have three good, prolific songwriters and need to keep them all involved.
My bias is: a CD isn't made better by trying to fill all available minutes.

I like that they're editing themselves down to eleven songs. Dirty South would be better off w/o "Puttin People on the Moon" and "The Sands of Iwo Jima" or "The Boys from Alabama".

One for myself, two for friends who I've decided has to learn liking this.

A friend of mine is a reviewer, and I got this in exchange for a bunch of Ryan Adams bootlegs. (48Hours, Suicide, Destroyer, Excile)

What to say about the album then...
It's bloody brilliant.
THey're playing even better than on Dirty South. And I feel the songs are stronger. Hard-hitting lyrics, and where Dirty perhaps had a few weak songs, this is rock solid.

1. Feb 14 we all have heard. Real cool rocker.
2. Gravity's Gone is perhaps my favourite. Real country-ish semi-acoutstic thing with brilliant lyrics.
3. Easy On Yourself - Slow rocker, reminds me of early of Springsteen/Mellencamp.
4. Aftermath USA - This is Lynyrd paired with AC/DC. Almost sounds like they got Angus in to play the riff. And the lyrics are awsome.
5. Goodbye - Another slow rocker. Lots of cool guitars like only the Truckers can do it... And slightly sad lyrics...
6. Daylight - This song is jut beautiful. I just can't decide on who's singing this...
7. Wednesday - This is a real Truckers-rocker. Lot's of guitar, and brilliant lyrics.
8. Little Bonnie - Cool "old western" guitarsound. Good old truckers-sound.
9. Space City - This is so pretty A Trucker-lovesong? Yes - it can happen! Acoustic and just beautiful. Strong, and sad lyrics.
10. A Blessing And A Curse - It's the Truckers as we know them. Typical Truckersong.
11. A World Of Hurt - A cool countrysong. Spoken verse. Awsome song.

A friend of mine got this record, and tried to give me a copy...HOWEVER, I am waiting until the release date. I have the date circled on my calendar and everything...its the 2006 Christmas for me!

As for the songs, I heard about 5 new ones last month when I saw them in Athens. They seem to be a bit more bouncy, almost Replacements-like, but still a big guitar sound. I personally like Patterson's songs the best, especially Sink Hole, The Living Bubba and Company I Keep, but all three can turn a word if you ask me.

Waiting is good. Well, for some things.

Asheville: friday! there are still tickets left. after last month of two son volt shows with hotel rooms, i wouldnt be able to afford beer at the show and that just wouldnt be worth my time. and i realize i would be driving home from asheville under the influence again. (i say again because i saw wilco in asheville a year ago (sept.13) and got a dwi, but the last bar i went to was empty except for a band called wilco (minus a tweedy), i bought them a round of buttery nipples and i ordered a water for myself, and then i was going to find the road. shortly there after and before the road, john stirrait sent me a double shot, well i spent the night in the mcdowell county jail with a smile on my face.)
