Alot of the current indie stuff:Death Cab,Bright Eyes,Decemberists, etc. I know I probably sound like an old timer but I`d take `80s and `90s indie anyday.

Jay Farrar and Son Volt are head and shoulders above wilco..I have listened to all of Wilco's stuff and it is just not as appealing to me...I am not saying it is not good...but would rather listen to Jay's music or Neil Young, both of them tower over anything Tweedy has ever done...maybe one day i will get Wilco..Today is not that day... I hate pop country..it is the absolute dregs ...redneck top 40(did not mean to besmirch rednecks...just their musical tastes)

I also skip the Tweedy UT tracks

Bright Eyes without a doubt. He just annoys me with that voice. All the latest crazes too Kaiser Chiefs,Franz Ferdinand, and of course U2.

New Pornographers
Death Cab

I use to like Wilco more

I wish it did not take 3-4 attempts before a post goes thru!

scalzunfield never misses a chance to bring up ANY anti-Tweedy sentiments that happen on this board. Truth is, Jay gets flogged here worse than Jeff.

VC is a different planet. Don't compare it to this board.

Yawn.

I don't get Bright Eyes.

What I was saying is I've witnessed more Wilco hate than love here. Pretty much all the diehards on this board seem completely anti-Tweedy anything. I wasn't comparing the music, just the boards in that it seems like there's a natural tendency towards disliking the music of the other artist.

I still like Jay Farrar a lot (that's why I still post here): I just lean so heavily on his older stuff because everything post-WST has been pretty mediocre at best IMO. Even WST left a little something to be desired by comparison, but what wouldn't? I was merely saying that everything post-WST has let me down whereas I've seen people (here obviously, but elsewhere as well) that thought Sebastopol and the new "SV" album were great. I just disagree (as the title of this thread would indicate).

Broken Social Scene. The kids here love these guys but they're basically unimaginative imo. Probably 5-6 good tracks.

Jayhawks. Kind of a cheat because I can stand them now, but I include this cause they get so much praise and just don't seem worth it. Many people have posted beautiful stories of their love for this band, and many of those stories are better than the songs. I guess you had to be there. To be fair, Hollywood Town Hall is starting to grow on me.

David Bowie. I think every single person I know who I really, really respect in terms of their musical tastes and knowledge just adores Bowie. They just have to say "Bowie" to each other and nod and they have exchanged some kind of important musical information and experience. I don't hear it, but admit to failure on this one (for now).

Bands I bend over for that others can't stand:

Shins. Believe it or not, some people don't like them.
Motorhead. Cutting it loose, it's Motorhead. All right!
The Schramms. Not the best but some pretty songs.

Why should one have anything to do with the other? I agree with you on Wilco live these days (the only days I've seen them) but I love Son Volt just as much (ok, a little more). Completely different things nowadays.

Of course that doesn't mean I don't like to talk about their past relationship. :D

Can't get into Jay Farrar post-Wide Swing Tremolo. People rave, but it's pretty awful. Can't get into DBT either. And Radiohead is just plain annoying.

Agreed. Wilco were awesome up until recently. Especially live. Now their live shows don't feel dynamic: with all the people on stage, it seems more like they're trapped within the songs than anything else.

The current Son Volt lineup, on the other hand, brings songs alive when they play.

Drive-By Truckers
I sorta felt the same way until I saw them. Then it all changed.

For me, its Sufjan Stevens. I tried real hard, but I failed getting into his music.

Well, I LOVE Wilco. And if you wanna know why, it's because of the songs, musicians, and arrangements. They are great. Mainly it's Jeff's songs. I've never cared at how "good" someone sings, Neil is my favorite artist for godsakes, so that's not a factor. Jeff has a way with words and melody, and he surrounds himself with great musicians.

I can't stand Radiohead. A bunch of crap. There is nothing good about that band at all.
