I have already weighed in, but I thought I would mention how much I dig Funk. Parliment/Funkadelic, the early 70s Stevie Wonder stuff, Earth Wind and Fire, Gil Scott Heron, Sly Stone, all that stuff is so dang good. What I listen to depends on my mood and there are a lot of times when my mood is all about funk.

But to see a band live in a Stuckey's bathroom stall, now that would be the ultimate. Where I am all the Stuckey's are now Love's Travel Centers. It is just not the same, and the music from the stalls is mediocre at best.

Stucky's... yeah I remember those from family road trips back in the late 60's/early 70's. Do they still exist? I was always partial to the sesame sticks and the taffy. And they always had great bands jamming in the restrooms...

Right here. I'm also a huge All fan, so the whole Chad Price connection makes them all the better, in my mind. Believe it or not, when I first heard DTR I had no idea either Snodgrass nor Chad was involved. I didn't know *who* they were, save for the first interesting "country" act I'd heard in a handful of years. All the details came together later.

Other favorites would be, well... as of late I'm been listening to The Break, The Gossip, and The Pavers an awful lot. I'm into a bit more energy and volume than I was a few years back.

As one of the few resident Canucks on the board I'll field the Sloan question. They're a pretty good band - they have a lot of fun and play mostly pop-ish 70's am rock.

Also, if you have a chance to check out Sam Roberts, do so. He's the best Canadian rocker around these days and he plays his ass off in concert. Don't worry, he doesn't sing any french tunes....

i always go back to: old 97's "fight songs" "satellite ride," r.e.m. (all
of it really, but especially "reckoning" "out of time"), U2 "joshua
tree" would have to be my favorite, southern culture on the
skids, liz phair, replacements, all alison krauss, whiskeytown,
neil young, stevie wonder, ella & louis, john coltrane, lyle lovett,
matthew sweet, de la soul "3 feet high and rising," jayhawks,
uncle tupelo, freedy johnston, patty griffin, buddy & julie miller,
xtc....well, this list is getting too long and boring to read, can't
list 'em all.

what does anyone know about this canadian band called sloan?
i heard one track on the local public radio station the other day
and really liked it...don't remember the name of the song. what's
the word on them?
