Yeah, the all seeing, all telling S Jay. He told Jay Farrar back in 2000 that he would make a great album with a guy called Anders Parker but that Tweedy would get all the plaudits for re-creating a Cat Stevens album.

Awww, that's a shame. I was hoping I'd run into someone from the board at the show. Oh well, next time...

You seemed familiar when you sat down next to me. Couldn't help but notice your long blonde hair and smile. My vocal chords cut out.

Now I know from where.....

Mitch Easter loves him too as they have also worked together! Adam and I have only communicated via email thus far and it's been a while, but he did mention a few months back he'd be fully booked until at least April.
Hope he and I can work something out, if not, maybe he can point me in another direction. I've also been talking with Paul Roessler as well! As always, Budget remains a big concern for me as I pay out of pocket for studio time. I'm envious of this new breed of musician who were all raised on Garage band and have zero problems making themselves a decent record without anyones's assistance...
That, for damn sure, is not me :-)

hey dumb question ... Adam "Red" Lasus is a great guy and fantastic producer. awesome bass player too. he told me once his producing style was inspired by the amazing Dumptruck For the Country record, produced by Hugh Jones. he said that record made him realize he wanted to produce.

Adam started out in Studio Red in philly and then moved to brooklyn and opened fireproof recording (in an old firehouse) before heading out west. he produced part of the first clap your hands say yeah record, although i think he ended up in litigation with them over something or other (and he won).

the guy has produced a bunch of fantastic bands - Buzz Zeemer from philly, trolleyvox from philly, gigolo aunts, chris harford, helium, juliana hatfield, yo la tengo, etc.

a few weeks ago, adam finished producing the sixth Matt Keating record, Quixotic, which is going to be just incredible.

really, everything the guy works on is brilliant

my favorite producer & a terrific guy

Now if you don't already have Tell it to the Dust, Songs in a Northern Key, and assorted Varnaline and Gob stuff, go get it now!
I will check those all out..I am most familiar with his self titled latest which he worked on with a guy named Adam Lasus out here in L.A.
I have a bunch of new songs and as a Lets Active Fan, got in touch with Mitch Easter about working with him in North Carolina.
This time around though, with my limited budget, it made more sense to stay local and Mitch fully endorsed Adam by saying he'd make me a Splendid record, which from the sound of Anders record, I do not doubt.
It also turns out that Adam Lasus engineered one of my favorite records of the 90's Madder Rose-Bring It Down, Which according to the liner notes, was sequenced at Tape Kitchen, Mark Spencer's studio??? Small Cool World if it is...
I don't know if Adam and I will wind up working together or not, as he is pretty booked up right now, but he does make a fine record...
Oh yes, and of course I have Death Songs for The Living. That was a MUST in the ole collection after hearing Buzz and Grind, which I Can't get enough of!!

That and then some...

Take a seat on the swooning bench for AP Andrea. I thank Jay for for my introduction to all things AP.

Aren't you THE Saratoga Jay? Aren't you the cat that bought SV1 BBQ pork sandwiches in 1996 or something? Pa tell me that story agin...and agin...I never get enuff of dat...
Hey thats living in my book! of course, I still love the Linwood tale of partying w/ Wilco in the 90's...and admitting sheepishly that he took the whiskey on the way out...

Its just great having Jay around these days...Has Jay done Hickory Wind before anybody?

Great Troubadour show! Very impressed with the duality of the Farrar/Spencer acoustic set..Was trying to pay close attention to Marks slide work as thinking I might bring in a lap/pedal Steel player when I record next..
Certain sonic elements I am trying to arrange in my head, but difficult as I do not play the instrument.
Really enjoyed Anders Parker's set as well! Spoke with him after the show about the possibilities of recording here in LA with a guy he worked with on his last record. The guy in question was not there as working on some pretty big projects at the moment, but wanted to introduce myself in person as we have only communicated via email thus far.

Damn Shame was also re arranged with the first versE bunched together over different chords entirely...And Mark Spencer just ripped it up...some crazy ass slidework that just shot arrows into my skull from different directions...awesome

speaking of Mark, anybody get a kick out of Jay's 'Cocaine and Ashes"? ..."this one's about Keith Richard"...how Mark 's only back up vocals come in on the chorus after

JF Body and Soul

JF and MS "CO-CAINE AND ASH-E-E-S!"

maybe 4-5 times ...I thought it was funny....the lyrics are a kick, I'm tellin 'ya

He just launched into the next song whether Mark was ready or not.

i was humored by this also
i thought he was going lose a finger a couple of times
when he was trying to switch the cord from the lap steel to the guitar
