Exactly. Tim Burton getting shut out for this? Yet another reason why the Oscars are a joke.

By the way, nice seeing you around Hank.

I think it's a cool movie, very very funny, but that's also pretty much it. To me it is just an entertaining movie, and nothing much to think about. The quirky dialogue is the most memorable thing about it (which is sad).

Just saw This Is England. Now that is a REAL movie, that is about something and that stays with you

It is a good movie. But, the critical acclaim is over the top. Ellen Page was great. The best performances were from her parents (JK Simmons and Allison Janney).

The script was very good at times, insulting at other times. And one thing I didn't get is that this character Juno has this really interesting taste in music and she talks about it constantly, and yet the soundtrack in the film is just this crap.

And, ok, I get it. The kid from Arrested Development can play the nerdy character. Jesus, his gimmick is becoming the most tired thing in Film.

If I had seen this flick without hearing a single review, I would not have been so critical. But, according to some reviewers, one may have thought that Juno has saved the film industry.
I still give it a thumbs up, but basically agree with your views. Most of the kid's dialogue was pretty contrived, like someone found a "kids buzzword dictionary" and attempted to use all the hip language. Kids don't really talk like that.

I think that type of kid would like the soundtrack still, my daughter is 16 and likes VU, among MANY other things and still likes the Juno soundtrack.

Overall it was good, 7 out of 10, but not at all on the par of No Country, There Will Be Blood, Sweeney Todd, Michael Clayton and some other great films from '07.

Of course it's all completely subjective when it comes right down to it.

Let me be clear. I didn't dislike the music as much as it didn't seem believeable to me that she would dig on it. You say you know girls like Juno that like that kind of stuff, so be it. To me, she came across as so opinionated about what she liked that I just didn't necessarily buy that she'd be playing that song on the guitar.

Again, though, a small point that shouldn't obscure the fact that it's a great, great film (in my eyes).

I was annoyed by that too. And it really got strange at the end when she was playing one of the songs with baby's daddy. I remember thinking to myself any girl who likes Mott and the Stooges would vomit before playing this.

Still loved it though...

I disagree. One, whether the soundtrack made sense or not, has nothing to do with the quality. Two, I know kids like Juno. Cool chicks that like the VU, Mott, Sonic Youth and dig on Kimya Dawson, Belle and Sebastian, Cat Power and Moldy Peaches. Moldy Peaches did the song that Juno and Bleeker sang together, Anyone Else But You.

Let me add this. I only wish I had seen this at one of Austin's art house theatres instead of the local megaplex. The theatre was packed to the gills with fifteen year olds whose incessant talking during the film became old real fast. Not to mention the constant giggling during every scene which involved a closeup of Bleekers skinnny legs. The only other solution would have been to give the flim an R rating. In hindsight I kinda wish they had.

Just another vote of confidence for Juno. A classic in my opinion. And No Country For Old Men is great as well. Right there with the Big Lebowski in the pantheon of Coen Brothers flicks.

Have to say though, I watched Once the other day and didn't dig it at all. Some of the music was okay, some was sappy and not my thing. But I just never found myself engaged in the storyline. I found the female lead to be far superior to the male. And the studio scene where the bored engineer (pun intended) suddenly becomes engrossed in the record making process wasn't believable to me at all. I mean, one minute he's reading Rolling Stone and ignoring the board altogether and the next he's playing frisbee with them on the beach. Whatever.

Juno is an excellent movie. Funny and poignant with talented acting. I recently saw Atonement and There will be Blood. Both top-notch. There will... was the best movie of the year for me until the last scene, about 15-20 minutes. It just seemed as thout PT Anderson lost the thread somewhat. I saw No Country..., Before The Devil Know's You're Dead, I'm Not There and American Gangster awhile back. All highly recommended acting fests. This has been a good season for cinema.
