You know how sometimes you listen to a record over and over again trying to figure out why everyone who has the same taste as you likes it so much, and you just can't figure out what they’re hearing that’s supposedly so great? For me, Okemah is just the opposite. So many hardcore Jay fans list it as one of his worst if not THE worst, but for me it’s seriously a close # 2 behind Trace on my Jay's best list. I need to figure out why I'm in the minority for loving it.
Not too hard to understand at all. To this hardcore fan the only songs on Okemah that have any appeal are Atmosphere and Bandages and Scars. The rest of the songs just missed the mark, sadly.

I am not sure what year it came out off hand, but I think Decoration Day is the best record of the last 10 years.

2006
Drag The River - It's Crazy

Could NOT agree more....Definitely the best damn thang I heard last year...
Thanks. I've been listening to Closed a lot these days too. Jon from Drag The River posts here from time to time. He seems like good people. And Decoration Day came out in 2003. I am not sure why I left it off my list. That record along with Dirty South are two of my favorites. And I like Okemah too, but listing Jay records on here as favorites always seems redundant to me.

I thought Being THere was 1996...

Great contributions by all. Definitely some new tunes for me to check out.
Of all of the ones suggested, REM Up is the one I missed that is a personal favorite. What a great album.

I had Sea Change up there. By far his most brilliant album.
