I heard an interview with Jay once in which the interviewer asked him in the song is about TVZ. Jay said that it's not about one particular person, but more about that lifestyle. He said that Townes and a couple of others that he mentioned by name would definitely fit in with the overall theme of the song.

Is this song about someone specific (Townes Van Zandt, perhaps?) or is it more of a general ode to an unknown/generic folk singer?
