I realize that I have strayed off topic in my earlier post. The direct answer would: Love him but not all time favorite...because, obviously, that would mean staying power, tested over time:
All time would have to be Neil Young as I have continued to listen to, and follow, his work since Buffalo Springfield days.

I wish there was a number between One and Two. Relegating Jay to Number Two seems so harsh to me. Allow me to create a new number: I call it WOO. Jay will always be my number WOO. But my One spot--since summer of '92--will always be Cracker.

The topic is almost overwhelming. I would have to break it down into decades or even 5-year increments.
latter 60's: Beatles, Steppenwolf
early 70's: Led Zeppelin, Mountain, GFR, Uriah Heep
latter 70's: Neil Young
early 80's: Dire Straits, Tom Waits
latter 80's: Long Ryders
early 90's: Can't remember
latter 90's: Wilco
00's: Jay Farrar, Son Volt

They is, without a doubt, my favorite. listening to Straightaways is just... its just... wow. Even if they had no other albums (even Trace), Son Volt would still be my favorite. But they DO have other albums, and they're all super-fantastic-great!! So yeah, I like 'em.

My favorite band:

In my teens it was Led Zeppelin
into my mid-20s, it was Dire Straits
and at 37, I'd say for about the last 10 years I'd say Son Volt.

To clarify this is of all-time. Yes I like Son Volt (plus all Jay Farrar stuff)more than The Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, etc.

it is almost imposible to name a fave band.....Neil Young and Crazy Horse would be up there and i guess if my life depended on making a choice that would be it........But I have been through so many evolutions in musical appreciation and with each evolution there was a new greatest band ever. Bands that have held that title in my life have been the Byrds, The Beachboys, The Buzzcocks, The Undertones, Loop, My Bloody Valentine, The Wedding Present, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Slint, Beastie Boys, Fugazi, Grandaddy, UT, Whisky Town, Bluemountain and Iron & Wine ................the list goes on. And I'm sure I'll pick up on something that someone on here reccomends and that could well be my next greatest band ever. I hope I never lose that excitement and enthusiasm for music.

do i have to join that site for the songs you post under your messages? i click on them, and hit the listen now icon but not a damn thing happens. it may just be that my computer sucks.
It only shows the recent tracks I have played on the computer vis a plug in on Winamp. As for listening to them thru Last FM , I am not sure but I don't imagine you can.
Kasey Chambers, way to go, bought The Captain summer of 2001, love her.
