All right, Jay, top 5 Saratoga bars. I've spent some time up there so I'll go first:
5- tie. Gaffney's/Peabodys
4. Desperate Annie's
3. La La's (RIP) they had david allen coe on the juke!)
2. Icehouse(?) not sure of the name, it looks like, no it is, an old garage.
1. E. O'Dwyer's. hands down without question, #1 bar in Saratoga for many reasons
HM- to the now defunct Aiko's , the 1st saratoga bar I was ever in when my buddy moved up there. and Clancy's, PBR cans in the cooler!
1. E. O'Dwyer's. was the same grade as the owner Tommy, known him sonce jr high. good darts, good cd selection, love seeing bands upstairs. too many stories...
2. Peabody's. tv's everywhere, great bar for sports, especially football, nice outdoor patio. but did I mention they have tv's everywhere with all the games?
3. Gaffney's. nothing beats the outdoor garden in the summer, as long as its not too crowded. one of those places started going to a tad too young. funniest was seeing t cruise& n kidman inside eating, buying gerry cooney a drink in there and the whole bar booing ex-giants qb dave brown out of the place into caroline street.
4. Brew Pub. old school Trattoria building home of the infamous skidmore saturday night. ugly. but many old, friendly faces on any given night.
5. Siro's- only open during the track and the derby. you got go at least once. what a mix, rich poor gamblers and whores. whitey upon request for some.
ice house is now owned by sean, the owner of peabody's, changing a bit(for the better)
lala's was never my thing, but i've been to the new place, stadium cafe
clancy's i've been to but don't remember much from those nights.
rip!
aiko's for sure. i'll never forget being at a party and someone turning to the spice channel and a dude was banging wearing an aiko's dead-logo t-shirt! funny as hell
metro was one of my faves. saw joan osborne and francis dunnery twice, among many others upstairs and tons others downstairs.
hon mention
tin and lint ranks for its history with don macclean and the college stickers
