Won't be the first time Jay's played on the same bill as Little Feat.
Saw him and Mr. Spencer one afternoon in August 2000 at an all
day outdoor gig held on the grounds of the grand Hopetoun House on
the outskirts of Edinburgh.
Little Feat headlined, preceded by Emmy Lou Harris, Steve Earle, Kevin
Montgomery and.....Jay & Mark.
It was grey and overcast that afternoon : this is Scotland remember ;
and I was a member of that hardy band gathered stagefront for Jay's
unveiling of his first post-Son Volt output. The set was basically gorgeous,
bare bones versions of the songs which would make up "Sebastopol".
Am I alone by being totally taken aback by the muscular production of
that album?( Maybe it's just because I heard the songs in such a skeletal,
almost other-worldly form beforehand).
Another thing which struck me that day was the fact that Steve Earle
watched Jay's entire set from the side of the stage. This occurred to me
again recently when I saw Steve Earle & The Dukes and was reminded
mightily of ..... Son Volt......two guitars, bass, drums and a charismatic
singer/songwriter with a distinctive world view.
Coincidence or something more......you decide.

Wakarusa looks like a nice little festival, with Son Volt, Calexico, Gov't Mule, Little Feat just to name a few. I'm sure you're going to have a great weekend walking to home every night instead of camping.

I'd consider this festival if I wasn't seeing bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee the weekend before. Now I only hope that Son Volt get added to bonnaroo!
