I too am very excited about the new project. However, if this line up is going to work together for awhile I think they should come up with a new name and start with a clean slate...with no preconceived notions of what it "should" sound like.

It might not, but after 5 years, I wonder if the original guys would've sounded the same. Even if it had worked out, in a couple months we might have seen a bunch of "They don't sound like the old days" threads. I'm don't know if the Boquist's styles or interests have changed. My hope is that if Jay wrote "Son Volt" songs, then he's writing for a RnR band and he's ready to rock again, which I look forward to. He's written some pretty good RnR songs in the past and done it with a lot of different people.

I can't believe so many people are anal about the use of the SV name instead of being thrilled about the new project.

I don't care what name he uses. I just don't think it will sound like Son Volt.
