I have turned many folks on to SV and nobody has ever said anything remotely like that. That is almost strange. I don't think of Jay, or even SV as great musicians. They just make great music. I could see it of som prog rock acts like Built to Spill or Rush, but not SV or UT. In fact, I can't really think of any alt.country act save Buddy Miller and maybe Calexico that I would call great musicians. Not to insult anybody, but I think Jay would probably laugh that someone thinks his music is too technical! Interesting post.

Musicians music?
I gave a friend the Son Volt acoustic show from SHARINGTHEGROOVE for his birthday. He listens/buys lots of music and has varying tastes, so figured he'd dig it. I was surprised when I asked him at the dinner table if he liked it--he said, "yeah, but it is probably more for musicians."
Wondering, since I've noticed that a lot of the folks here on the msgbrd play guitar if this is an accurate/common reaction to Jays music when first introduced... Do musically inclined people enjoy Jays stuff more? with the general public just nodding their consuming entertain me heads in curious amusment, then releasing it to the used bin for the latest fad....
