Not real new but Robinella and CC String Band do some pretty good bluegrassey stuff. Some tunes are a little jazzey for me but for the most part worth checking out......

Joe Strummer-of the Clash and later the Mescaleros, died after taking his dogs for a walk...heart attack. I said that would be a good way to go, so long as I had a tall can as well...meaning, I would be enjoying two of my favorite things (well, three- I have two dogs)...

Lefty Frizzell never leaves my rotation Sunny-D, Your right- they don't make them like that anymore...'cept maybe Wayne Hancock...anybody like ol Wayne the Train?

My Morning jakcet is awesome. I have Hell's 1/2 Acre's second CD.

What's with those Kentucky Bands? Is there something in the water?

I've been listening to only a few newer bands: MMJ and Hell's 1/2 Acre.

But what's in my CD player right now is...Lefty Frizzell. They don't make 'em like they used to.

i've been searching for new music to listen to. i've been listening a lot lately to some new age music and folk. i've fallen in love with a station at www.folkalley.com. i've been writing down names of all these bands/singer/songwriters that i hadn't heard before. it's cool. it's hard to find anything that matches jay, but there's a lot of good music out there that i ain't heard yet.

A friend of mine got Streetcore and raved about it and wouldn't be quiet until I listen to it. So I put it in just to shut him up and I fell in love with it. I saw the video to Redemption Song on VH1 Current/Classic show not to long ago. Does his other solo stuff sound like this?

I listened to Streetcore and Billy Bragg's Talking With the Taxman About Poetry & Back to Basics last week, along with some Burning Spear and other stuff here and there, but I've been on a huuuuge Jeff & Jay kick lately, so most of my listening the last couple of months has consisted of UT, Son Volt and Wilco. I think I need an intervention...

It was sad that he died... but if your going to drop dead you might as well do it walking your dogs, I hope to be holding a tall can as well.
This week for me, it's an old one rediscovered. I can't stop playing Billy Bragg's "Back to Basics". One of my favorites that I start spinning every year or so compulsively.
As for new stuff... I am patiently awaiting the new Drive By Truckers, and ringing it in by blasting "Shut your mouth and get your ass on the Plane"...much to the neighbors dismay
Cheers

Joe Strummer and other cool sounds

Post by Hank Snow »

We always talk about other music we are listening to on here. Does anyone dig Joe Strummer and the Mescelaros? I have been listening to Streetcore non stop, and just love it. Of course the Clash has always been like one of my 2 or 3 favorite bands ever. Too bad Joe checked out. He was incredible.

I also ordered MMJ's latest whatever the name of that one is, cause I enjoyed At Dawn so much. I followed the link on this site to Devil In the Woods, and discovered some cool bands there. I ordered a CD by Meow Meow that sounds great.

After all the talk on this board and in the press about A Ghost is Born, I haven't listened to it for like 3 weeks.

I am seeing Jay Monday night in Tallahassee. Cannot wait.
