Maybe a Son Volt concert!!!
You should. It's still a fun town!
Well ... Son Volt played Carbondale (Shryock Auditorium) early on the Trace tour. They haven't been back since. (That's ok ... St. Louis isn't that far away).
I don't know if the new Hangar 9 would be big enough for a Son Volt show (thought might ... 350 capacity). But, I imagine it could support a Farrar solo show. I wouldn't complain either way.
Ok ... I'm off to the Wayne "The Train" Hancock show!

The American Tap was torn town a few years back. It had been closed for years.
PK's is probably much how you remember it. (Except that the clientele is a bit less rough ... still a mixed and interesting crowd).
The Hangar 9 is now nothing like you remembered it. It had the roof cave in during an ice storm a couple years back. It was rebuilt and just recently re-opened. (Here's their Facebook page in case you want to check it out:

05/05 - Wayne "The Train" Hancock (@ the Hangar 9 in Carbondale, Il).
05/16 - Slobberbone - w/Jackhead (@ PK's in Carbondale, Il).
PK's is a 150 person capacity dive ... what a great place to catch Slobberbone!
(PK's is also the place that Todd Snider ran out of 50 minutes into his set. This was after he played a full set there the night before. No real answers about what was up with that. But, it was an interesting night).

Shit, I can't believe I fucking missed this. Well, I didn't miss it yet, but I'm going to the Raiders game that afternoon. I think if I told my wife I was going to a show that night, she'd have the locks changed while I'm at the game.
Next show will be the Black Crowes at the Fillmore on the 14th.

btw cal, rush was nothing short of amazing both audibly and visually. i understand this tour will appear at some point on dvd.
Never mind the dvd, Rush is coming to Ireland in May. Tickets on sale this week! I am getting a hold of them before the Germans and the rest of the IMF drive me into poverty and penury.
Dev, what happened? You struggling for work? Sorry to hear that D. Seems it may happen to me sometime in the new year too.
If you can swing it, Bocelli actually is a good night out. We saw him in Rome a few years back and it was great. Maybe due to the fact that it was the romance of Italy, Rome and the singer and the fact that I'd had a few but still..
Supposd to go see Andrea Bocelli and the Houston Symphony Orchestra in early December, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to swing it. My recent separation from a steady paycheck has hindered my show-going a little bit, so we'll see. Glad I have a job lined up for the beginnning of December, but it's going to make for slim pickins 'til then.
I would go see Jay or Gob Iron or Son Volt or Bottle Rockets or Anders, but EVERYBODY HATES TEXAS.
