If it's shit, it's shit, poppy, alt or whatever. IMO that is. Lyrics are often a defining factor:

After manana mi ciello by David Hasselhoff:

After manana mi ciello
I’ll be with you in the morning
Wait for me down by the station
There is gonna be some celebration
After manana mi ciello
I’m gonna hold you tomorrow
Darling be mine when I come to you
Manana my friend mi ciello

It’s been so long so many nights
I had to see
Those big city lights
I’ve seen a hundred places
And millions of faces
But one girl is still on my mind
I’ve seen a hundred places
And millions of faces
But one girl is still on my mind

How do you look
How do you feel
D’you still believe
My lovin’ is real
Give me a chance to show you
And baby I know you
We’ll never be lonely again
Give me a chance to show you
And baby I know you
Will never be lonely again

What constitutes a bad song? Because its popular and not alternative OR it truly has bad arrangement and sound?

I listen to Accuradio when I'm at work and they keep playing this dude non-stop... every other song is Jon Langford or Waco brothers... sheesh!
I used to listen to the Y'allternative/Alt-country/whatever Accuradio station.
I got sick of it for similar reasons.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Jayhawks, UT, SV, Wilco, Whiskeytown, Richard Buckner...but then that was just about everything they ever played and i wanted to hear something new.

And the new stuff i did hear just didn't measure up....and then it would play again 2-3 songs later.

OK i think I may be lighting the touch paper to a rocket load of abuse, but it's bunkum. The lyrics seem so contrived and a product born from a 80's rock formular. Obviously the worlds ills can be solved if we keep rocking in the free world. Why didn't we think of this before? Plus it exluding the non free world. What about if they want to rock?

I remember seeing them at Slane Castle supporting Neil Young and they got bottled off the stage!!The ugly singer even came down into the crowd...a crowd of 70,000...and she got milled on all sides by the drunken Neil fans!.

Better than television!
And I witnessed them being bottled off at the Fleadh in Finsbury park, in what i can only imagine was the same tour.
Strangely Teenagefan club sucked that day too
