I was at the same show. My first Wilco show. My friend and I got there after Deerhoof's set started though, so we had shit seats--midway up the balcony, facing stage left. We went and stood on the bottom level in the back for most of Wilco's set. Awesome, awesome concert. I still haven't downloaded or heard those live tracks... What did you think of Deerhoof?elliegurl wrote:i can't really vote, i think they are all very good even AGIB, which most people think is not that good.

Why does AM get so little respect? I know it's much different than the other Wilco albums and maybe not as deep, but I think it's great. It's not timeless maybe in the way Trace is, but as far as fun, sing-a-long songs, AM rules.
If I'm driving and just want a fun album to listen to, AM is perfect. The lyrics aren't that deep, but personally, sometimes I think that's a nice change of pace. Not every song has to be so cryptic or meaningful.
Songs like "I Must Be High," "Box Full of Letters" and "Passenger Side" etc are pretty straight forward, but can anyone really say they aren't brilliant in their own pop alt country way?
IMO AM is almost more like an Old 97s album. Great catchy tunes with excellent musicianship and fun lyrics.
I think Neverwonagrammy gets jobbed by the Wilco snobs that bash that album. The guitar on AM slays. It's great. I like all Wilco albums although I'm not a huge fan of AGIB yet, although I'm sure it will grow on me.
I feel as though because AM was rushed that somehow it's just perceived as being inferior to other albums, which imo, is bogus. It's a discredit to Koomer, Brian, Max and John.
I like Summerteeth and Being There, but I really feel neither is that superior, if superior at all, to AM.

very hard core wilco fan.
YHF and Summerteeth are all time classics that will go down in history as total brilliance. AM was a good first abum, not great. Being There is wonderful and a sign of the greatness that was to follow. AGIB is good not great, there are moments of brilliance (ALTWYS, Company in my Back, Late Greats, Muzzle of Bees, etc. Don't care for others much like Hummingbird or Wishful Thinking. i think everyone of them sounds WAY BETTER LIVE than on the album. Maybe it is because Nels Cline rules.

There in no other group I have a harder time with as far as ranking their albums. As lame as it sounds, I like every album just about equally. With Jay's stuff, while there isn't anything I dislike, I certaintly have favorites and not-so favorites. But with Jeff's band everything that is released is of an eerily consistent level of enjoyment for me. Okay, AGIB was a bit of let down, but after a year it is still growing on me. However, if I was forced to rank them it would go a little something like this:
1. Being There (Just slightly above the rest)
2. A three way tie between A.M., Summerteeth, & YHF
5. Mermaid Avenue I
6. Mermaid Avenue II
7. AGIB

I'm with BentonBourbon except I like the Mermaids a little more, I think.bentonbourbon wrote:I don't really fall in either
A.M.: It's cool .. really don't go back to it .. Love the idea neverwonagrammy jams all over it
Being There: That's my favorite one.
Mermaids: Ehhh
Summerteeth: cool, but don't got back to it.
YHF: Love it .. still go back to it
Ghost is born: I think I like it more than most do, especially on here ..
I enjoy seeing Wilco live; but I’m probably considered an A as far as what I actually own and rotate on even a semi-regular basis. I don’t dislike Wilco really at all, I just don’t find myself near as into them as I was during those good ol’ AM days. Of course, a friend was in the band during that time-period, so it made it quite a bit easier to get immersed in them. Again – I don’t not like Wilco; but I’m not way off into them like I used to be. The latter years have largely been lost on me, but their show in Houston recently was quite kick-ass and I really enjoyed myself.
