Great story. This raises an interesting question (one I'm sure has been asked here before), and that is "When did you first hear Jay?" and was it "current" Jay?
I first heard him right before No Depression came out, so for me hearing Son Volt for the first time was really a slight departure from the Jay I had become familiar with.

Awe camaroheadus you're lucky to be able to share such things with a woman. One day I will know, for I am determined to make a future with Devronika.
Good luck.
It's not every album where the musician starts you off by blessing you, with Windfall.
I knew I'd never finish high school or go to college so music to me was like education. Jay seems to be very educated, don't know if that's true or not. He's my whatever the people in school read nowadays.

nice story. i credit son volt for saving my current relationship. my girl and i were haveing serious problems in jan. this year, and i was ready to get rid of her. for christmas, she had bought me tickets to see sv in charlotte in feb. and i knew the tickets were in her name at the will call. so i decided to stay with her until then, but in the meantime we reconciled and are now happy as ever.

that day i bought that cd from son volt
That was one of the coolest days. I was working at an old antebellum home, plastering and reflooring the slave quarters that stood beside it. It was my first day of work period, and you could almost feel what the slaves went thru. I remember the plaster originally applied was to chicken wire. Although, the Salvation Army next door kinda ruined the atmoshpere. I had lost my license to a DUi/possession and my mom was picking me up that day to go to Atlanta to get my fine paid and license renewed.
On the way out we stopped by a Turtles, and I went in to buy the cassette tape by Son Volt, Trace. I had no idea, I just thought I was getting that cool single I saw maybe once on TV. On the way out of Turtles there were some old friends of mine waiting to go see a movie. I stopped and said hey, and one asked me what I had just bought. I pulled it out and showed him. We talked, and I told em to enjoy their date.
Later that day on that listen I pondered, damn, this is nothing like Bad Religion. What have I gone and bought? Oh my god, I wasn't Jay-washed from the get go. It took a couple of listens but It turned out to be a fave for so many years. I think that day was godlike, partly because of this:
That girl friend I saw outside Turtles was named MISTy. The last track on Trace is MYSTIfies Me. Wow! I knew I had to go smoke some pot and think this over. So I did. It turns out they were their as angels, sounding together a new musical revolution in my heart. It's like they were there as messengers, saying I'm gonna love this.
