Rolling Stoned Top 500 Albums
I just picked up a new music magazine called "Tracks" that wasn't half bad. Their first publication just hit the racks. Their tag line is "Music Built To Last". It's hard to say how they will be over the long term, but if their first effort is any indication, they should take a bite out of RS. They feature both classic rockers (Sting, Robert Plant, etc.), plus newer acts like My Morning Jacket, Ryan Adams, etc. I think they are trying to reach a wide demographic by focusing on quality music that has staying power vs. the flavor of the month. I hope they keep it us, since RS is a shell of itself these days.
RS's useless political articles aren't the worst. A year or so ago they ran the story of a young teenage girl who was killed by the sex-drugs-rock'n'roll gang she hung out with. Seems like the author tried to feel bad about it. The kid was just trying to fit in, find happiness or something and that's why she wasted all her time dressing wild and hanging out with scuzzy people. Can't remember if the mother was a villain or not. Definitely a single mom. Can't remember why they killed her. For a thrill? Or they just didn't like her? High on drugs? But thumbing through the pages preceding the article and following the article, there was this blatant message that sex-drugs-rock'n'roll is "where it's at!" Their own pictures and words refuted what the author may have been trying to say. Hmmm...was that a "reality" magazine article. I hide in a corner in the library with RS to check the charts in the back and the new releases and try to wash my hands as soon as possible. PS: Wilco does have a new release coming. Title unknown currently. Lots of songs? PPS: Cindi Lauper can't be all bad. She took mountain dulcimer lessons from David Schnaufer, a virtuoso living and teaching in Nashville.
Re: Rolling Stone List
RS cracks me up. It comes to my house for my teenage stepdaughter. I see all the covers of fluffy half-naked musicians---you really wonder, who is it that reads these serious articles, like this one Hanging Blue Side mentioned? Are the kids listening to Justin Timberlake and Mariah Carey and Britney Spears really into these serious articles? I've seen all of them on the cover over the past few years.....Hanging Blue Side wrote:I saw that list,Rolling Stone does suck.About 5 pages later there is an article with Robert Kennedy Jr. whining about the enviroment .Stick to music, although you cannot even do that well either.
What a stupid magazine, and what a disappointment they have become.

f*cked up
their top 500 poll is kinda hard to take serious without a single mention of one or any combo of Trace, Anodyne, March or Being There, but i had some other beefs. like counting greatest hits which i think was stupid and i felt they left off a countless list of awesome bands and their best release but some artists had way more selections than they deserved. but it is hard to please everybody with a list like that, and rolling stone has sucked for the past 10 years anyway.

Did anyone get a chance to check out the "list". Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't see YHFT on there. As much drooling as they do over Tweedy I figured it would be a lock.
