5 albums that made things happen...
1. Beatles "Sgt. Peppers..." My sister gave it to me when I was a little kid. Made me love music.
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd "Second Helping". Made me wanna play guitar.
3. Ramones "Rocket To Russia" Made me think I might be able to play in a band.
4. John Anderson "All The People Are Talkin". Showed me I could like country music.
5. John Prine "Bruised Orange". Made me wanna be a songwriter.
These are the 5 that actually CHANGED shit in my life. There ARE albums that linked these together, but, these are the five biggies.

I don't think any albums influenced my life one way or another. Music in general has been a huge influence in my life. I have a few albums that could serve as a soundtrack to my high school years. I do think memories and music have their greatest impact during that time period. At least to me it did. So I see exactly where that one poster was coming from(don't remember who?).
Now I listen to a much broader range of music, but it doesn't provide a soundtrack to my life. Either because my life is too boring now to have a soundtrack or because I listen to WAY too much stuff to pick out a few favorites. IMO, no music will ever bring memories rushing back like music I listened to during my teens(which is my only barometer for 'influence'). It was probably a combination of the pot, the alcohol, and the hormones???? Now I listen to music of all genres and love finding new music... It just seems to serve a different purpose. I'm 25 and I've only entered into the alt-country genre in the past 2 years. Now I have all the UT cds, Whiskeytown cds, Jayhawks, and many more on some list here... I loved Trace from the time I was 16-17 yrs old or so. I bought the album after I saw Son Volt perform at Farm Aid in Columbia, South Carolina. But that's where my knowledge of alt-country ended until I graduated from college. I wish my list could be more cliche, but I'm relatively new to all the bands on your lists. Though I love most of them, I'm just getting started.
Anyway... here's my top 5 after all that nonsensical babble. Not including Trace.
1)Drivin N Cryin- Mystery Road
2)Weezer- The blue album
3)Sublime- 40 oz to freedom
4)Pearl Jam- Vitalogy and Vs.
5)Bob Marley- Legend... I don't see how this doesn't make everybody's list(who's around my age). If you like Marley this was certainly your introduction to him. It may not be the best, but it's certainly the most influential.
Also 2 local South Carolina groups CD's would probably top the list as well...
1)Jump Little Children-Licorice Tea Demos(still one of my favs)
2)Sourwood Honey- Oxydendrum
