So, for someone unversed in torrents, FLAC, etc., what's the easiest way to get this? What bit torrent client should I use? How do I get this in a format that I can listen to, or will FLAC play automatically on my computer once I download it?
Thanks!

I use utorrent 2.2.1. The later versions have lots of crap attached so find the older version. I use foobar 2000 for playback but most players these days should handle flac files. I am upping my recording from Haw River Ballroom to Google Drive at the moment. It is the akg391 source and has already been upped to dimeadozen and bt.etree.
I haven't seen a written taping or sharing policy for Son Volt. I could offer these up as a direct download of flac files or 320k mp3s if the band is cool with it.
Cheers,
Dale
Success! I have a Mac, so I used Deluge as my torrent client and All2MP3 for the decoding/conversion. Worked like a charm.
Maybe it's the way the instruments are coming through on the recording, but it sounds like they're doing a punk version of Sinking Down compared to what I saw in Dallas, which was very true to the album version. It seems like Chris Frame's slide is carrying the main riff and Jay comes in where the slide does on the album. Just a guitar geek observation, but it gives the song a completely different feel.

Thanks, Dale! And thanks, thatbeat! Though a direct mp3 download would be great, I will follow your instructions on the FLAC/torrent and let you know how it goes.
