Don't know if this is the same show y'all are talking about....R.E.M. was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame recently and Bill joined them for it....Gregg Allman was also inducted that night and played Midnight Rider with R.E.M.(minus Stipe) backing him. Bill & Gregg appeared to click. It was pretty cool to watch. Pete seemed slightly out of his element....It was televised on Georgia Public Television.

R.E.M. kicked ass. They played Begin The Begin, Man On The Moon, & Losing My Religion. The sound sucked but you could tell they were on the mark....And Bill was in great form!

Really think it's like he's said before....just tired of being a rock star. He was hinting at it years before actually quitting.

One of my favorite music blogs was down for a long time, and just recently went back live again:

Right out of the gate, he's posted Sonic Youth, Wilco and REM (not a bad grand reopening). REM X-mas tunes, no less...

enjoy

The band's songwriting really seemed to suffer after Berry left. Knowing that he doesn't like touring anymore, they should just have him help pen songs.

Perfect Circle, Driver 8, Can't Get There From Here, Man on the Moon are all his.

I know he suffered a brain aneurysm and maybe had some subsequent issues after that; I think his decision was (initially) health-based as far as quitting REM. Re-joining became less interesting when considering the hell of touring. He obviously has not changed his mind on that. dunno if he will.

So Central Rain is a great song.

I don't think there is any movement on that. I thought too, that the awards thing and the fact that they played together as a wedding band a couple times might have whetted Berry's appetite again but seems the moment has passed now. Shame.

Nice find, the version of Radio Free Europe on the same Letterman show is equally cool.

Bill Berry - REM

Post by LH »

Hey all,

How's the board goin'? Been a few months since I posted anything.

So I'm sitting here in my living room, sippin' some cheap ass whiskey - Can\adian Club, I believe. It's a bid handle of whiskey, that's all I know for sure, but it's doing the job.

I'm watching a REM show on Comcast On Demand. Good stuff. Always liked these guys.

So, Bill Berry. I know he played with them a while back on some awards show. Any news with REM and Berry? It seems he was hell bent on farming and never drumming with group again, but I wonder if the awards show sparked anything. I know they all remain friends.

Anyway, anyone know anything?

Rockville and So Central Rain have always been favorites.

Drink up!
