Maybe Jay seemed very judgmental or suspicious about Jeff's motives because his perceived "knowledge possesion" was in fact clairvoyance. Maybe Jay knew that Jeff aspired to become a synth-pop superstar before Jeff did.

It all seems like fodder for the next great emo record.
