The reason boiled peanuts are a Deep South thing (and not a northern or Tennessee or Kentucky thing) is that peanuts have historically been grown there. In Alabama and Georgia 'specially. They have been a staple crop for a long time (or at least used to be before globalization of agriculture) and so the local people figured out every whichaway to eat them, including boiled. They are delicious and I personally love it that Yankees don't like them. Like grits, y'all can dis em all you want, more for me!

getting warmed up for tommorrow huh kenny? boiled peanuts rock teh house, and just because they are found mostly in the south doesn't mean they are redneck food.Bound to Get Burned wrote:A tasty treat. I put them in the fridge, so tomorrow the flavor will set in, but I've already had a bowl of them. And on my fifth beer!ShuckOwens wrote:A follow-up please?

Hell, I survived "burgoo" while living in KY. Reckon' I'll give 'em a shot. Never heard of boiled peanuts whilst living in the bluegrass, though.Linwood Thorpe wrote:no comparison shuck. Imagine that tasty roasted peanut, but undo the roasting...so you have a green peanut, and then you boil it shell and all. What you are left with is a soggy shell pod and wet nuts (snicker). If you ever get into SC or more south, they have them at like every exit off of the interstate.ShuckOwens wrote:I wonder if it's anything like roasting walnuts? I loves me some walnuts, but if you toast them, they become the most foul-tasting snack imaginable. Like eating dirt clods.

Boiled Peanuts
Went to the grocery store today and they had some green peanuts in the produce section. Now, I'm drinking a beer and boiling the peanuts in some salt, water, beer, and some cajun seasoning.
Can't wait till they're done. Love me some boiled peanuts!
