A few weeks ago I tried to show my support for Doug's frustration at the lack of sympathy he was getting for Wilco's cancellation of the Charleston show. My post was really meant as "tounge in cheek" but of course I set off a shit storm. I ended up having to defend myself after someone accused me of "posting and hiding" or something to that effect.
My response is on the second or third page with Masked Haters reply on the following page. The only guy there that backed me up. His response was classic.
Masked Hater II wrote:i keep trying to tell those glue-sniffing pill-popping hipsters over there that their scarfs from the GAP are wrapped too tight and cutting off the oxygen to their brain...tweedy jumped the shark a long time ago. the guy drops a minature casio keyboard from radio shack into a blender, while that goofy drummer throws eggs at a cymbal or something, wierdo o'rourke hits a reverb button and they become radiohead-lite for the trucker cap and chunky glasses crowd. they pee themselves daily over every little thing tweedy does over there, it's pretty messed up.
at least jay is still staying true to real rock music. tweedy went all hollywood and now the kids at the counter of urban outfitters have something to talk about. sucks.
Masked Hater II wrote:i call it how i see it and they way i see it is that tweedy lost the point after AM. the only thing that sucks worse is that godforsaken message board over there. it's one big hipster sleepover party where they sit around, trade ironic concert tees and fantasize about 'doing it' with various members of the band. it sickens me really.
funny shit
the wonders of the search function when you're new to a message board
i was searching for a reference to a solo acoustic show i saw henneman do while i was in st. louis for work -- opening for Robert Earl Keene - and found this dude
those devandra-loving wine spritzer-drinking via chicago weirdos piss me off too but not sure i'd phrase it quite like that
If you really stop and think about it hanging out on a message board all day talking to total strangers through your PC is pretty pathetic no matter which band you like better, but we do it anyway cause it's fun and sometimes informative. Some of us are more pathetic or obsessed than others.
I think comparing the boards is as pointless and futile and stupid and comparing the artists themselves.
Yeah, you should probably read the thread before you bash the folks here. With the exception of the mods, the places aren't that different. The only complaint I see (that is valid) is the size. Unless I'm mistaken, the pajama party was a NYE show that Jeff came out in pajamas for (or changed into, or something). This is an old thread anyway.

Your "opinion" concerning the quality of VC over this board is one thing, but the statement above is a complete joke. If you think "best administered" means posting Stickys and having multiple forums, then okay. I, however, eagerly await VCs twice-yearly database crash, loss of data, downtime, not to mention the rather regular downtime of the torrent site. That site performs like a $1000 car.

So not looking to revive a dorky viachicago v. jayfarrar.net thing.
Which, if you read from this post forward, you will see very little "making fun of viachicago" with the exception of the fan pajama party.
Bigb wrote:Via Chicago is vastly superior to this message board. No offense. It's also one of the best administered on the net. If you feel better poking fun of "those" people, have at it.
Hey Bigb, thanks for your testimonial.
Why was this thread dug up anyway? Most people around here are fans of both Jay and Jeff...

I post at VC too... in fact my username is the same as it is here.
VC is a different kind of place, while there are a lot of smart ass remarks, they are all in good fun. It took me a long time to realize that and not to take every thing everybody said too personally. Once I got over that it became a nicer place to read things at, and I even met my best friend there.
As far as the dressing up for shows go... most people just do it for fun, it's not like costumes or anything (except at that one halloween show, where even the band dressed up) it's mostly just dressing fancy for the occasion.
