Andrew Duplantis?

I noticed that his name does not appear in the credits on Honky Tonk (and that Mark Spencer is credited as the bass player). Anyone know what's the scoop on his lack of involvement on the project?

I agree with you, Tokyo Fan. I love Will Johnson, but I sometimes get the impression that, in order to facilitate the outpouring of his creative offerings (e.g., lyrics, videos, paintings), he liberally applies a "just go with it" attitude, meaning he gets an impulse and doesn't let fretting over de...

Favorite singing duos?

I was listening to the New Grass Revival's "Barren County" album last weekend and was struck by how awesome Sam Bush and John Cowan sounded harmonizing together--great singers and such an underrated band! What duo's harmonizations tickle your auditory nerves?

Richard Buckner owes me $7.50. The first and only time I saw him was in Los Angeles several years ago in a tiny club with Anders Parker. Anders was up first and played an amazing, memorable set. So, that half of the ticket was well worth it. Next, Buckner gets to the stage and immediately starts whi...

Thanks for your post, Brian. It confirmed my suspicion that the Grammys are pretty much a sham (notable exceptions may include the times when Tom Waits won for Bone Machine and Mule Variations). 8)

Grammy nominees for best Americana album

I just read the following grammy news at: http://www.grammy.com/news/beyonce-leads-52nd-grammy-nominations "For Best Americana Album, the nominees are Together Through Life by Bob Dylan; Electric Dirt by Levon Helm; Willie And The Wheel by Willie Nelson & Asleep At The Wheel; Wilco (The Album) by Wi...

Chris Masterson

Can anyone enlighten me about Chris Masterson's departure from Son Volt? Why did he leave? Did he quit, or was he given the boot? What's he doing now/going to do? I apologize if this has already been discussed; I did a cursory search of the archives but wasn't able to find any answers. Thanks. P.S. ...

Listened to "Flow" last night with headphones (and high). That song is amazing. I heard layers of guitars that I had not previously noticed with regular speakers (probably due to my low-grade stereo). It struck me as a very complex composition; I particularly liked the subtle riff that is played whi...

That sort of implies Jay reads a lot of the "drivel" that gets posted here. Could it really be so? I sure hope not, because it's somewhat addicting, and he's got albums to write, for chrissake!

For those of us with naive ears, it would sure be nice if some musically inclined person would explain how to listen for a key change and/or modulation (whatever that is). Using examples from ACD would make the explanation all the more incisive. Pretty please? Thanks!

Just curious, where in "LA" (I presume you mean Los Angeles?) did you get your vinyl copy? Amoeba? It seems like Amoeba is really the only good CD/record store left in L.A., but I would love to be corrected on this given that it's so far away from the part of town in which I live. Thanks!

"Shootenanny!" is my favorite Eels album, followed by the live "Eels With Strings" album. Every song on these is a jewel, and I'm glad to be livin' with them.

Centro-matic's Will Johnson drumming for Son Volt

I just read this on the Centro-matic message board: Will is filling in on drums for these shows: October 13th, 2007 The Echo Project Festival Fairburn, GA November 2nd, 2007 Electric Factory Philadelphia, PA with The Black Crowes November 3rd, 2007 Electric Factory Philadelphia, PA with The Black Cr...
