I'm really psyched to see him at Slims and the Mystic. Been listening to more of his stuff lately. One of those guys who should be (or have been) huge (like Alex Chilton or Matthew Sweet), so much talent and so musical.

I for one think Mark's keyboards and pedal steel add welcome color and texture to the Son Volt sound. Guitars, bass and drums are the core, but they are all really rhythmic instruments. Just saw Elvis Costello at the Masonic (SF)--tremendous show. 30 songs, the new stuff is great live, Pete Thomas and Steve Nieve are, well, their awesome selves, and the two singers are integral, vital parts of the show and sound.
