confession:
if I'm auto-scanning the radio stations and I come across a Carpenter's song,
I'll stop the scan.

Jodel irritates me less than Dead Man's Clothes.
Much less. |
Really? Dead Man's Clothes was one of my least favorites on Wide Swing Tremolo but after hearing this version from the Bowery Ballroom in 1998 I changed my feelings post haste.

Oh, and I have an incessant monologue going on in my head at all times, even when I'm in an actual converstion with someone. |

Yeah, that version isn't bad. It's the guitar tone that irritates me. _________________ M-M-M-M-M-M-Maura!!! |

I love Jodel!
California irritates me.
Sounds like a screwed-up boring tourism ad for the state.
Gramophone irritates me.
Sounds like nostalgic romanticized yearning for the past. _________________ "We're all criminals waiting to be called" |

Could not disagree more about California. I think it's one of his best... certainly the best song on a very good album. Kind of a travelogue of beauty that he could best reveal through a beauty of a song. Any time I can get Jay & Eric trading skills on a disc is a win for me. |

Heh..i think it's one of his worst lyrically, but yes, musically it's beautiful.
I say the same for Gramophone.
I have a good friend who LOVES California for the same reasons you do.
I definitely understand the intent but it just doesn't do it for me the way some of his other songs about countrysides and cities manage to.
However i'm very curious to see/hear the Big Sur project!
And Jay's worst songs are still better than most folks on a good day. _________________ "We're all criminals waiting to be called" |

Agreed, with the exception of Slow Hearse. |
