Does anyone think that some or most of Trace was written with the intent of recording the songs with Uncle Tupelo?

I don't think so. I believe that all of the songs for Trace were written post-Tupelo. He wrote all of the songs on a road trip down the Mississippi river. I believe that Drown is about the break-up of Uncle Tupelo - just my interpretation.

I think that the songs on "AM" and "Trace" were all meant to be UT songs. It only makes sense, I guess. Both Jay and Jeff have taken their music in a new direction, but their first efforts seem to be taken from a UT collection.

I read somewhere that some of the songs for AM were Tweedy songs that he had written while in UT. It wouldn't surprise me if some stuff Jay has released post UT had been written or thought of while in UT.
