Anyone else read this yet? Some interesting Farrar/UT stuff on the early influence of Whiskeytown.

I've asked Santa (my wife) for it.

I read it yesterday. Book's okay; really fast read. Kinda laundry-listy of the whole Whiskeytown "phenom." If you can call it that. I blew off WT during those days. Had no time for antics running around North Carolina before and after hiking the AT. Had enough handling my own experiences. Right there in the book, the narrative peters off.

I love Ryan Adams' songs and contributions to live rock-and-roll, but this book kind of evoked the feelings alot of people had about Ryan through their lifetime. I think there is a good bit of me, myself and I for all involved throughout the years. Don't hate the PLAYA!!!!!!!!!! Long live Ryan Adams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Pony

Menconi's a music writer out of the Triangle, think he submits for Spin mag as well. Definitely does the Raleigh newspaper.

Whiskeytown was a good band, definitely enjoyed Strangers Almanac, Faithless Street demos was a good one too. Caitlin Cary was a great compliment to RA's singing, she's got some good solo stuff out. Always thought RA got fed up with everyone trying to add their own thing to his songs...

Wondering if this is worth the read. I might wait for Jay's book.

Menconi is no Greg Kot (i hope). Shocked

I liked the shit out of it. A lot of weird and funny bits, some unflattering. Funny that I agree with the author about much of the music, that is great and not so. Nothing at all like the Kot book.
